Margaret McNamara Scholarship for Women 2024

Margaret McNamara Educational Grants are awarded to women from developing and middle-income countries who, upon obtaining a degree, Intend to work in or with developing countries to improve the lives of women and/or children.

We encourage recipients of the Margaret McNamara Scholarship to inform other students. Know about our scholarships and to build a network with other scholarship recipients.

The mission of Margaret McNamara Educational Grants is to assist women from developing countries who are pursuing their education with the goal of improving the lives of women and children in developing countries. MMEG is one of the few organizations that provide financial assistance to such women.

Value and duration of the award: 15,000 dollars

The grant will run for the duration of your studies with full support.

Eligible Countries: international students

feature: Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • It’s an identifiable woman. and be at least 25 years old at the time of application closing.
  • Be a national of a country listed on the MMEG qualifying countries list (except for Trinity Washington University programs)
  • Be enrolled (not just accepted) at an accredited educational institution in person when submitting the application.
  • Plan to register for at least one full semester. (half-year semester) after receiving the MMEG scholarship award
  • Plan to graduate within three years of receiving the MMEG scholarship award.
  • Not related to the World Bank Group International Monetary Fund or Inter-American Development Bank employee, spouse, retiree or MMEG board members

All documents listed below are required to complete your application.

Failure to submit a complete application with all required documents by the application closing period will result in the application being ineligible, i.e. applicants will be automatically excluded.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Before starting the MMEG application process, please scan the following documents in digital format. (PDF, JPEG or PNG files are recommended):

  • National identification card (ID) with photo:
    • (a) Country passport page with photograph and date of birth. If studying outside your home country or
    • (b) Identification card issued by a government agency/university. With photo and date of birth
  • Proof of latest official registration from the university. (not an acceptance letter)
  • Official university transcript and/or most recent report.
  • Visa page or study permit page in current passport (If studying outside your home country)
  • Second page of passport with clear photograph (In the case of holding dual nationality)

You will be asked to upload these documents at some point in the online application form. You will also prepare:

  • A short paragraph describing your personal story and how your education, experiences, and future plans connect to your commitment to women and girls in developing countries.
  • Estimating your financial situation This includes living expenses for the upcoming academic year. and planned strategies to cover capital needs.
  • A summary of your dissertation (if applicable), including objectives, methods and findings, and their relationship to professional goals.

Two reference letters are required.

  • One referee must be a professor from your current university. The second referee may be a person. (Not a family member) who can vouch for your character. At least one person must have known you for at least two semesters.
  • Please contact the two people you wish to request reference letters from. After confirmation You will be asked to provide the email addresses of two people providing references on the application form. They will each receive an email link from Embark’s online platform to write their recommendations. Once feedback has been submitted You will be notified by Embark.
