Overview of the Montana EBT Card

In 1977, Congress passed the Food Stamps Act. (now called SNAP) Its purpose is to help eligible families obtain healthy food by supplementing their food budgets.
The amount of SNAP assistance a household receives is determined by income, expenses, and the number of household members. The U.S. Bureau of Agriculture and the State of Montana provided funding for the project.

What is a Montana Access Card?

Stores that accept EBT online
The USDA has launched a new pilot program called the Online Purchasing Pilot that allows certain grocery stores to accept EBT cards online for grocery purchases. Including delivery to your doorstep.
The following grocery stores have been approved for the pilot project. and will allow EBT cardholders to purchase food online for delivery.
These include Amazon, Dash’s Market, FreshDirect, Hart’s Local Grocers, Hy-Vee, Inc., Safeway, ShopRite, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., and Wright’s Markets, Inc.
Are there places where I can’t use my Montana EBT card?
Your Montana EBT card cannot be used at certain establishments, including casinos, poker rooms, card rooms, and smoke and marijuana shops. Adult entertainment businesses, nightclubs, beauty salons, liquor stores, tattoo and body piercing shops Spas and massage parlors, bingo halls, bail bonds, racetracks, gun and ammo shops, cruise ships, and psychic readers.
Ineligible Montana EBT Card Purchases
The Montana EBT card cannot be used to purchase certain foods and products. This includes hot food intended for consumption in stores, vitamins and medicines, pet food. Paper or cleaning products and alcohol/tobacco products

To determine your Montana EBT card balance, one of the easiest ways is to find a recent purchase or ATM receipt, but this method is only available to TANF recipients.

Another option to check your EBT card balance is to call Montana EBT Card Customer Service at 1-866-850-1556.
You can access an automated voice system 24/7 to inquire about your card balance. But be sure to have your EBT card number, 4-digit PIN, and Social Security Number (SSN) ready before calling.
When you call, enter your sixteen digit EBT card number to hear your current food assistance or cash account balance. You will not be able to check your balance without providing this information.
